What is VYKAT XR?
VYKAT XR (diazoxide choline) is a once-daily oral medication approved for managing hyperphagia in people with Prader-Willi Syndrome aged 4 and up. It helps reduce food-related anxiety and behaviors.
How is VYKAT XR taken?
• Take once daily (morning or evening).
• Can be taken with or without food.
• Swallow tablets whole. Do NOT cut, crush, or chew.
• Tablets are about the size of an Advil.
What are the Common Side Effects of VYKAT XR?
• Hair growth (especially facial/body)
• Swelling (legs/face)
• Mild rash
• High blood sugar (hyperglycemia)
What should I watch out for while taking VYKAT XR?
Call Dr. Anand if you notice:
• Excessive thirst or urination
• Vomiting or fatigue
• Difficulty breathing or unusual swelling
What will the dose of VYKAT XR be for me?
Dr. Anand will design an individualized titration plan for each patient. Here is a sample plan for a patient who weighs between 40-65 kg:
Week 1-2: 75 mg daily
Week 3-4: 150 mg daily
Week 5-6: 225 mg daily
Week 7+: 225 mg maintenance dose
